Restaurant Re-visit: Cagen Japan Restaurant, NYC (Japanese)

About a year after our first visit to Cagen (YelpWebsite), we came back in May of this year. There were more than a few repeats compared to last year, and I don't know if that's because we ate at the same time of year, or if the omakase does not change too much. Regardless, I enjoyed it just as much as the first time, as the food is all super yummy.

Cagen received a star in the 2016 Michelin Guide as well - well deserved!

Here are the pics from our second visit:

Gazpacho amuse bouche with okra, chia seeds, corn

First course - pretty similar selection as last year. The marinated tomato is still my favourite from this plate.

Second course - sashimi selection.

The firefly squid are sooo cute. Here is one swimming in the delicious "chimichurri" sauce.

Third course - homemade soba

Fourth course - Ayu river fish fried and grilled

Fifth course, part a) - Yummy trout topped with some fried veg and zucchini. Apple vinaigrette accompaniment.

Fifth course, part b) - Wagyu on white asparagus

Otoro

Bluefin tuna

Hokkaido uni

Finally, a handroll to make sure you are full!

Dessert - Green tea ice cream on mochi, frozen strawberry and blueberry, grass jelly

My counter-neighbor, Totoro :)
